There is a feeling of going back in time at the Osborne’s self-styled ‘café grill'. The surroundings have a twenties feel to them, a nice mix of elegance and fun with cheery staff and a great buzz to the place on a busy service.

The menu too brings back some great memories and shows a good understanding of what these kind of places were once about – offering good quality meat and fish without too much embellishment and some simple classic saucing. Typical of the style is simply grilled fillet of plaice with lemon butter or rack of lamb with a rosemary jus and there is some inspired reviving of classic puds too, like ginger parkin with rhubarb ripple ice cream. A nicely balanced but not overlong wine list offers plenty of good options in the sub-£:20 bracket.
