Unique coastal hideaway, relaxed, stylish and adorable
It’s not difficult to see why so many people have fallen for the Harbourmaster in its relatively short existence. Perched on the harbour in the pretty fishing town of Aberaeron, it’s one of those places that has a beautiful simplicity about it that makes you wonder why every seaside town doesn’t have a similar jewel in its crown.
The truth is it takes real care, commitment and no shortage of simple good taste to create something as alluring as this small hotel with its captivating bar and restaurant. There is much that is contemporary in the design and the style of operation, but it’s been achieved with such intelligence that it still seems perfectly suited to its location.
Eating and drinking are the lifeblood of the place with an excellent informal restaurant that offers unfussy, often classic dishes based on the best of what’s available locally with seafood naturally taking pole position. In the summer the bar spills over and you can witness the civilised sight of people sipping glasses of crisp, dry white on the harbour wall – a conviviality that defines the style of this cheerful and easygoing operation.
The bedrooms are masterpieces of design – an easy coupling of comfort and style and all, even those in an adjoining cottage, look out over the water. They are all named after sailing ships built in Aberaeron harbour - an industry for which the town was once famous. More recently though, the presence of the Harbourmaster has brought Aberaeron renewed attention and rightly so as it’s a delightful location for an exceptional place to eat and stay.
