Lamphey Bishops Palace

The extensive remains of this lavish country retreat provide a glimpse of the lifestyles enjoyed by the medieval bishops of St Davids, worldly men who enjoyed the privileges of wealth, power and status. The Palace at Lamphey, near Pembroke, is mainly the work of Henry de Gower, Bishop of St Davids from 1328 to 1347, who was also largely responsible for the magnificent bishop's palace alongside St Davids Cathedral. Lamphey Bishop’s Palace dates from the thirteenth to sixteenth centuries and provided a magnificent retreat which offered everything from fishponds, fruit orchards and vegetable gardens to sweeping parklands.
