Tretower offers the visitor a particularly interesting group of medieval buildings on two distinct sites. Tretower Court, a late medieval defended courtyard house, is an excellent example of the changing fashion and taste of the wealthy landowners in Wales between 1300 and 1700.

Tretower Castle is a motte-and-bailey castle established during the Norman conquest of Brycheiniog, with a shell-keep raised on the mound about 1150, and a round tower added in the early thirteenth century.
