A culinary attraction in this famous village

The charming village of Laugharne is chiefly known for its Dylan Thomas associations and a walk along the cliff top to visit the boathouse where he once lived and see the writing shed where he worked are a must. The imperative for anyone interested in good food must also be to make a pilgrimage to Nick Priestland’s exceptional restaurant The Cors.

The former vicarage is tucked away in its own glorious grounds with a quite stunning garden that benefits both from the humid microclimate (the garden is surrounded by streams) and Nick’s talent as a garden designer. Inside the building has been renovated with similar panache and a distinctive bold style that is hard to carry off but is done here with apparent ease.

The cooking can be pretty outgoing too. Smoked Haddock Crème Brulée is a highly successful signature dish. Much is made of local produce like the excellent salt marsh lamb or sewin from local rivers. There’s no standing on ceremony and those used to slick metropolitan service would do well to relax – but it’s not a hard place to relax in.
