Contemporary design and luxury in a Victorian castellated mansion at the entrance to Portmeirion Village
Clough Williams-Ellis, the man behind Portmeirion, had originally intended that this Victorian mansion situated at the entrance to the village would form part of the hotel accommodation. The second world war intervened however and it was not until some seventy years after the idea originally arose that his vision became a reality. Castell Deudraeth is very much a product of its 21st century times with a boutique style to the interiors that offers real luxury with the use of some exceptional hardwood furnishings, blankets by Melyn Tregwynt and original artwork by Sir Kyffin Williams.
Bedrooms are particularly spacious and feature CD players, DVDs and whirlpool baths in the marbled bathrooms. The dining room with its slate floor and views over the estuary offers a brasserie style menu of classically inspired dishes well suited to the smart but relaxed surroundings. The whole package adds up to a remarkable achievement in refurbishing a historic building to offer top of the range contemporary hotel accommodation.
