Tucked away in beautiful Carmarthenshire countryside Coedllys Country House is a wonderful retreat that comes with its own wooded valley and acres of undulating farmland. A haven of tranquillity, yes, but It would be wrong to give the impression that this renovated Georgian farmhouse is isolated – some of the most beautiful beaches in Wales, Laugharne of Dylan Thomas fame, coastal footpaths and the stunning countryside of neighbouring Pembrokeshire and Ceredigion are only a short distance away.

There is plenty to savour without getting in the car as well, the woodlands are home to a huge variety of birdlife and are a great place to walk and explore (well-behaved dogs are welcome here). The farmland is also home to an amazing variety of animals including donkeys, sheep, goats and a Shetland pony all of which have been rescued. The views over the surrounding countryside are exceptional and a cottage garden with ponds is the ideal place to relax and enjoy them. The house also boasts its own sauna, Jacuzzi and heated exercise pool.

The bedrooms are spacious and make the most of the views. Period furnishings and top-quality fabrics set the tone but these are coupled with modern comforts like flat-screen televisions and DVD players. All rooms also include WI-FI and i-pod docking stations. Breakfast is a real highlight, it can be as light or as substantial as you like but the delight is in the use of local produce, none more so than the eggs from the house’s own free range hens. Candlelit suppers are available by arrangement.

Coedllys Country House holds the Visit Wales Gold award.
