Cleifiog was once a hospice run by monks and there remains a peaceful air about this beautiful and historic house which apparently was a resting place of Thomas Telford whilst he built the Menai Suspension Bridge.
One can only envy the great engineer – the setting with panoramic views across the Menai Straits to the mountains of North Wales is quite exceptional. The house itself is packed with charm, not least the wood panelling that adorns the bedrooms and the guest sitting room which also boasts a terrific outlook onto the sea. There’s a contemporary edge to the bedrooms too with DVDs and internet access complementing the individually decorated rooms.
A sumptuous breakfast is served “en famille” in the dining room.
