This grand house built in the William and Mary style cuts a serene and majestic figure as you approach it along the long driveway that skirts part of the hotel’s 20 acres of parkland. The ornamental lake and fountain add to the tranquil feel and inside there’s the kind of elegance and comfort that all helps to make this hotel a very easy place to relax. Whilst this is in many ways an archetype of a first-class country house hotel, it has nothing of the stuffiness and sometimes stiff formality that can permeate this kind of venue. The house has been employed as a hotel since the 1920s but in recent decades owner Mike Morgan and his friendly team have fashioned it into a wonderful base from which to explore the beauty of the Wye Valley, the Brecon Beacons and the Vale of Usk.
The rooms have been beautifully furnished to combine modern comforts with a sense of luxury so four posters, and period furnishing are combined with the likes of flat screen televisions, wifi, mp3 docking stations and contemporary bathrooms. The icing on the cake is that each one has a wonderful view of the surrounding grounds. The award winning Court Restaurant is very much at the hub of the hotel offering great quality cuisine with a real emphasis on local bounty, including the freshest of herbs, fruit and vegetables from the hotel's own restored walled kitchen garden. Whilst the place is an invitation to take it easy, there’s plenty of stimulation available too - guests can enjoy archery, bowls, croquet, go-karting, putting, quad bikes and shooting in the grounds and for fishermen there is the added attraction of the hotel’s two beats on the nearby River Usk.
