Category: Places to visit, Snowdonia

With a name that translates ‘salt water pool’, this is the undoubted capital of the Llyn Peninsula, although it does have an odd and slightly eccentric character being half market town and half holiday resort. The town itself has an illustrious historical past dating back to 1355 and you’ll still hear Welsh spoken by many of its inhabitants. Unsurprisingly, it was here during the 1925 Eisteddford that members of the Army of Welsh Rulers and the Welsh Movement met in the Temperance Hotel to join forces and create the Plaid Cymru political party. Take a stroll around the marina and not only will you be able to check out the 420-odd craft there, but you’ll also be able to marvel at the views of Snowdonia.
