The countryside in this part of the Brecon Beacons National Park is simply stunning and it’s wonderful to see a barn conversion like Merryfields Barn undertaken with such style and sympathy for the beauty of its surroundings. Built by local craftsmen, Merryfields Barn skilfully combines the use of traditional materials with modern comforts. On the ground floor the limestone floor conceals under-floor heating. The two bedrooms (one double and one twin) have oak beams, floors and doors, whilst the well-equipped kitchen is also crafted from oak. The property boasts the likes of HD TV and DVD, Wi-Fi and a music system but it’s the peerless views from every room that really makes this a special place to stay.

Outside there is a patio area enjoying wonderful mountain views together with a secluded area for al fresco dining and barbecues. A stroll away is the Monmouthshire and Brecon Canal with its barges, kingfishers and wildflowers, whilst just a little further is the delightful village of Llangattock. Over the River Usk are the restaurants, speciality shops and galleries of the famous market town of Crickhowell, whilst the wider area offers a host of activities such as canoeing, golf, horseriding and para-gliding. The National Park itself is home to an almost limitless number of opportunities for walking and other historic towns such as Hay on Wye and Brecon are a short drive away.
