We could do with more places like this in Great Little Places - honest-to-goodness country pubs that retain their coaching inn heritage. The Wynnstay Arms, standing next to the church at the heart of a traditional country village in peaceful surroundings, has a busy bar, good choice of beers (and malts) and roaring open fireplaces.
It’s also a popular place to eat, with good-value, wholesome food served in informal surroundings by your host David Russell, dating from the 17th century, the Wynnstay provides simple but comfortable accommodation in refurbished bedrooms.
Travellers who venture into this relatively undiscovered corner of Wales are well rewarded by breathtaking sights like mountain-ringed Lake Vyrnwy and the spectacular waterfall at Pistyll Rhaeadr, one of the ‘Seven Wonders of Wales’. The Wynnstay is also surrounded by wonderful walking, cycling, pony trekking and birdwatching countryside.
