What do you get if you cross a French chef with an English florist? Well, in this case a very special place to get away from it all, in a peerless location in historic buildings renovated with obvious taste and creativity. Owners Cedric and Dawn have just returned from the French Pyrenees (where they ran a B&B) swapping the drama of the mountains for the gorgeous rolling landscape of Herefordshire’s Golden Valley. Their chosen home is a charming Grade 2 listed building reputedly once part of the historic Dore Abbey and including a tithe barn now renovated to form three individually styled cottages that sleep 2, 5 and 6 people respectively. Bleu-Gris, Cerise and Chocolat are as their names suggest, quite separately themed, but all share the characteristics of having been designed with real flair employing beautiful fabrics and furnishings and all are equipped with modern comforts.
Cedric and Dawn are passionate about food and whilst all the cottages have well equipped kitchens they offer four-course dinners on Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings. The perfect chance to forget cooking and enjoy the talents of Cedric who creates dishes that highlight seasonal produce either grown themselves or supplied by local producers.
The cottages are set in 3 and a half acres of countryside that offer a multitude of opportunities to relax and enjoy the scenery whilst each has its own private terrace too. The historic towns of Hay on Wye and Hereford are only short drives away and the area is a gateway to the whole of mid-Wales and in particular the Brecon Beacons. A terrific place for a romantic break or a relaxed getaway with the family.
