Visitors to the breathtaking countryside on the flanks of Snowdon can now immerse themselves in the world of the slate quarryman, thanks to the imaginative and fascinating interpretation provided in these former Victorian workshops at Llanberis. Visit the largest working waterwheel in mainland Britain; step back to 1911 in the chief engineer’s house; marvel at the perilous-looking machinery that transported slate; and take a tour of the workshops, foundry, forges, loco shed and the machinery that made tools for quarrying slate.

Other attractions include a row of quarrymen’s cottages, rescued from demolition in Blaenau Ffestiniog and painstakingly reconstructed so that each reflects home life during a different period in the industry’s history.

Stunning views can be enjoyed from the café, or by taking a stroll through the richly wooded lakeside landscape of the Padarn Country Park. The museum is located at the terminus of the Llanberis Lake Railway, one of the 'Great Little Trains of Wales'.
