Category: Snowdonia

Dolgellau, in the past overshadowed by some better-known Snowdonia neighbours, is putting itself on the map. Thanks to the increasing popularity of walking and mountain biking, and the efforts of hoteliers like Marc Russell and Nick Banda, it is at last attracting the attention it deserves.

Marc and Nick run Y Meirionnydd, a small hotel that’s part of a new wave of places to stay and eat locally. Their refurbishment of Y Meirionnydd has given it that fashionable, less-is-more look. Soothing colours, a lack of clutter and quality furnishings suit the cosy bedrooms, while downstairs there’s an attractive little bar and lounge.

Further below still, in what was once the town’s gaol, is the atmospheric restaurant with low-slung beams and a menu that pays homage to continental influences as well as fresh local ingredients like Bala lamb and beef.
